Have you been considering becoming a real estate agent but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone—many people are excited about the idea but get stuck on the first steps. As a real estate professional, I’m here to break it down for you. Let me share exactly what you need to do to launch your career the right way.
#1. Talk to a successful agent first. Before you spend a single dollar, talk to a producing agent. By that, I mean someone who is actively closing deals and knows the ins and outs of the business. This conversation will give you a real look at what being a real estate agent is like. What’s the day-to-day process? What challenges can you expect? Getting this insider perspective will help you decide if this career is right for you.
#2. Know the investment required. Starting a real estate career requires an upfront financial investment. On average, you’ll need between $1,000 to $1,500 to cover the basics. This includes licensing courses, exam fees, and other startup costs. It’s important to understand this upfront so you’re prepared.
#3. Complete a pre-licensing course. Next, you’ll need to enroll in a pre-licensing course. There are many online options available, and I’d be happy to recommend a few trusted providers. These courses will prepare you for the licensing exam and give you the foundation you need to succeed in real estate.
#4. Pass the licensing exam. Once you’ve completed your course, it’s time to take the licensing exam. This is the official step to becoming a licensed real estate agent. Once you pass, you’re ready to start your new career.
#5. Choose the right brokerage. After passing your exam, you have 90 days to select a brokerage. This is a critical step because the brokerage you choose will shape your experience as a new agent. At Keller Williams Realty, we pride ourselves on our training and onboarding process. Many brokerages accept new agents but lack the resources to help them succeed. We focus on preparing you for a successful and comfortable start in your new career.
If you’re thinking about becoming a realtor, let’s talk. I’d be happy to answer your questions and guide you through the process. You can call or text me at (318) 794-6769 and I’ll help answer all of your questions. Let’s start building your future in real estate!
